Concerning the marine flora, Tunisia harbors a rich diversity of green, red and brown algae with nearly 414 species which have been listed along the littoral. The biodiversity of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea is lower than that of the Western one, and approximately 30% of the species of the Mediterranean are present in Tunisia. Generally, the Mediterranean fauna and flora seem particularly rich but they do not appear to be subjected to a high number of studies when compared to other areas of the world. The study of marine biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea, as in other seas and oceans, always remains subjective as it fluctuates over time.
